Kangaroo Valley Photographic Workshop with Len Metcalf

5 INSPIRING DAYS TO EXPLORE & DEVELOP YOUR VISUAL LITERACY

Len spent many years living in Kangaroo Valley as a young adult guiding groups through this amazing wonderland. His first photographic portfolio was conceived and developed in the valley, producing a stunning portfolio of little know places. In this workshop he shares many of his secret locations.

Thick mist blankets Kangaroo Valley on most days. During the day the large water mass from Tallowa Dam evaporates and when the air cools it at night, it condenses again and fills up the valley in this most gorgeous thick mist. One of Lens favourite lights to photograph in.  He was going to call this workshop “The mist workshop”.

Photographing in the mist is amazing. Subject isolation becomes easier as does creating an intense sense of depth. The nature of the light is soft and quiet as it envelopes objects. Mist is the ultimate diffuser.

Kangaroo Valley was once a leading dairy area and the central regions are rolling hills covered in lush green grass with the occasional tree scattered on the hillside. Running though the middle Kangaroo Valley River tumbles through many small cascades on its way to Tallowa Dam, and then into the Shoalhaven River.

The edges of the valley are where thick dense lush rain forest grows under the shadows of the towering escarpment.

With all lunches, morning and afternoon tea included, all you need to do is unwind and focus on your photography.

Enjoy Len’s gentle, supportive teaching style as you participate in daily class sessions tailored to your needs.  Len plans to shoot all morning, return to the classroom for lunch and spend the afternoon learning about your photographic practice, processing and critiquing your work. You can read more about class topics below.

Throughout the workshop you will receive professional guidance and advice while shooting at a variety of locations.  You will also receive valuable feedback on your photographs from your group in critique sessions.

Theory and technique are practiced, developed, nurtured and grown through a series of practical shoots and class sessions.  Over the week you will be encouraged to experiment with new techniques and venture into undiscovered creative territory.

NB: This workshop includes day workshops and shoots but not accommodation, so you are free to choose accommodation that meets your needs and budget. If you would prefer a small boutique tour with accommodation included, please consider one of Len’s all inclusive photographic tours.
