Location features: Bare Island is home to a 19th Century Fort that was built to protect our shores, and is situated in Sydney’s southern suburb of La Parouse. A photogenic feature is the 130 year old wooden bridge leading to the island. Access to the island is via this bridge though the island is not open until 7am for those who want to venture into. Additionally, there is the Macquarie Watchtower situated on the knoll as you walk from the carpark to the island.
Hazards/Dangers: There are flat rocky outcrops so be mindful of rock holes and possible slippery algae.
Fitness requirements: Flat easy walking, no ironman/woman prerequisites required.
Additional safety equipment required: If venturing out onto the rocks, appropriate rock shoes &/or cleats would be best advised. Torch or headlamp.
