What inspired you to attend the trip?

Iceland has been on my bucket list for a few years now, and having seen so many amazing images of the Icelandic landscape I finally decided to do a trip there. I had also spoken to previous participants of Jarrod’s workshops and heard nothing but positive feedback.

Can you tell us a bit about the trip?

The trip was 5 days covering multiple locations each day and provided an excellent variety of places. From the stunning high waterfall of Skogafoss to the glacial ice caves in Jokulsarlon and the mountainous Vestrahorn, there’s something for everybody. Jarrod runs a well organised workshop and knows the country very well.

What was the highlight of the trip?

The ice beach at Jokulsarlon. As a seascaper, being able to shoot huge chunks of clear glacial ice washing up on a black sand beach was amazing and so far removed from anything you see in Australia.

Can you tell us one thing you learnt on the trip?

No matter how prepared I thought I was for the cold, I wasn’t !

Do you have any recommendations for any other Focus members considering this trip in the future?

Book early as Jarrod’s workshops do sell out pretty quickly. No matter how many layers you think will be enough, take an extra one. And just do it, it truly is one of the most spectacular landscapes you’ll ever see, ignore the cynical photographers who say it’s been over shot. It hasn’t. 😉

What is your favourite photo from the trip?

I can’t narrow it down to one, but top 3 would be one from the ice beach, the aurora over Skogafoss and the moody sunset we shot at Vestrahorn.
