LOCATION GUIDE: KIRRIBILLI, NORTH SYDNEY

DIFFICULTY RATING EASY

Description:

Kirribilli is located on the northern side of Sydney Harbour and provides unobstructed views of the city,
Opera House and Harbour Bridge. This is considered an easy shoot with few stairs on level ground.

Parking

Is plentiful – here are some options, metered parking on Olympic Drive (usually lots of places to park for sunset shoots) provides parking very close to Jeffrey Street Wharf – you can’t get much closer, there is a parking station behind Luna Park and more street parking towards North Sydney, all within walking distance.

Time of day

Either sunset (colour on the right hand side of the bridge looking south) or sunrise (colour on the left hand side of the Opera House looking south). Excellent to shoot in fog. Excellent for night/photography @ dusk. Not tide dependent.

Special considerations

Maybe busy during school holidays, special events (New Year’s Eve etc). There  is not much shelter in the rain so be prepared. It can be exposed to the wind during a southerly.

Suggested equipment

Wide angled lens if you want to capture the Opera House and Harbour Bridge in one photo. A long lens is suggested for close up pictures of the city or Opera House. Filters are recommended but not essential. Tripod for long exposures essential but photos at hand held speeds are also nice.
