Thom Wheeler has won the Focus April competition with a striking image of city windows and reflections. He receives a $100 voucher courtesy of Mainline Photographics.
Second place was awarded to Silvio Kramar and third place to Nico de Swardt.
The Focus April competition, themed MONO URBAN LANDSCAPE, attracted 130 entries. Two independent judges, Douwe Dijkstra and Graeme Gordon, studied and scored each one. Every competition entrant can access their scores by re-entering the competition website.

It was an honour to judge this competition. Street photography is close to my heart and it was great to see so many entries. It is a discipline maybe a little foreign to most photographers in this group, since they are predominantly land and seascape photographers. Throw in the mono exponent and the challenge is even greater. But great to see so many taking it on, skipping their familiar stomping ground for the urban environment, resulting in a very fine Top 20. Well done all !

I was thrilled to be asked to judge this month’s Mono Urban Landscape Challenge and was most impressed by the overall standard. It was pleasing to see a wide range of styles and interpretations. It was very tight between the top two, with the winning image drawing me in and having me search around all of the windows with their own view of the world, and the second place image with its great comp leading me from the stairs at the top, zig-zagging down to the moving train and to the commuters on the platform.
