Scott Abercrombie has won the Focus WIDE ANGLE CHALLENGE with an emotive forest scene. He receives a $300 voucher courtesy of SONY Australia, to be spent towards any items in store at Spectrum Camera House, Brookvale.

Yan Kurniawan secured second place while third place was awarded to Bronwyn Bell.

Commenting on the winning image, Lee Duguid said:

It’s moody, mysterious and different. Exactly why I scored it so highly. I was immediately drawn to the dark tones of the image, with its subdued highlights, shadows and colour treatment. The use of the trees to frame the image was an effective way to keep the viewer’s attention in the frame, forcing my attention down the slope and along the perfectly lit path. For a wide angle landscape, it is intimate at the same time. Kudos to the photographer for a well visualised and well executed image.

Jarrod Castaing said:

It was a close race ! Some images featured great light, weather conditions and subject matter, but may have missed the opportunity of this month’s “wide angle” theme. While others may have stitched or shot super wide, but without the conditions or the composition to match. I think that the images that did well managed to walk a fine line and balance both aspects in great fashion.

John Armytage, Executive Chairman of Focus Group, said:
